I had a really nice surprise today. Something happened that hasn’t happened in many years of being in business. One of our oldest customers came to us late this week with a bunch of photos and some funky ideas & asked me to turn it into an intro sequence for a conference with all the heads of the various departments next week.
I’m not going to lie, it was hard work to hit the deadline that we all needed to work to – but yesterday I delivered something that I, but more importantly they, were really happy with.
Anyway today when the hard copy was collected I was presented with a bunch of goodies from Waitrose including wine, chocolate & some amazing cream cakes from their patisserie, as a thank you for all the work that I’d put in.
It was a nice touch from a classy client. They’re paying me, so they’ve no need to go the extra mile, but it made me feel valued & also it just adds that little bit extra bond between our companies. I am glad that they are happy with the end result, it was damned hard work – but what will I remember from this? Will it be the 3am finish, or the goodies that we get to stuff on bank holiday weekend?
It’s always nice to feel valued. This episode has shown that we must be pretty good at what we do. Now, where did I put my fork?

Yes, it’s great when someone makes a gesture like this Martin. It happened to me a few weeks ago, when a new client gave me a small gift in appreciation of ‘going the extra mile’ to get a film turned around in just a few days… and I was really chuffed! I had a case of special beers from a small brewery in the West Country, which were soon consumed!! Enjoy the cake!
